I was sitting in a garage on a hot day in Navarre , FL. I was playing my guitar for this girl who's life I tripped into for the summer of 2010, and I had just finished singing a song I wrote about a break up. She said, "I don't want us to break up, but I'd be curious to know what a sad song would sound like about me"
I was still strumming out some chords as she said that... and I kept going with those chords and sang out the 'chorus' of this song.
It is grammatically incorrect, but the woman was from far south Alabama, and they use a lot of double negatives down there, so I went with it.
Lyrics
I don't want to write no sad songs
'cause i never want to feel you leave
and I never want to see you crying
over me
you know how much i love you
if you leave me i would die
there'd be no goodbye songs written
'cause dead men can't write
you're like a ray of sunlight
shining down on a city street
you bring such beauty to anyone
or anything you meet
so i don't want to write no sad songs
cause I never want to feel you leave
and I never want to see you crying over me
your heart is my heart
your soul is my soul
your breath is my breath
if you leave me; where would i go?
I could sail a thousand oceans
i could circled the globe
i could climb the highest mountains
and i would never find your love
so i don't want to write no sad songs
cause i never want to feel you leave
and i never want to see you crying over me
i don't want to write no sad songs
i don't want to write no sad songs
i don't want to write no sad songs about you
not about you
never about you
